Lucio named best Work From Home design in Wallpaper* Awards 2021

The Lucio lounge chair has been named as one of the best designs for working from home in 2021 in the annual design awards held by taste-making magazine Wallpaper*.

Published in the magazine's latest issue, the awards highlight Lucio as the ideal seat to “take Zoom calls in comfort”.

Designed by Sebastian Wrong, Lucio features a high-back, generous proportions, and a swivel table. The design's flowing forms are cleverly supported by a laminated ribbed construction that shapes to the user for extra comfort. It’s a stylish solution for mornings of coffee and calls.

“Lucio is part of a move away from compartmentalising furniture as being for the home or the office,” said Wrong. “It can withstand the demands of a real, functional home and be equally suited to a break-out space or a coworking environment."

"It has a distinct character, it’s comfortable, it's lightweight and, if you’re on a call, it offers you somewhere to put your laptop without having to worry about your background or whether you’re going to end up with a sore neck.”

According to Wallpaper*, home working is here to stay, and it has introduced this new category in its annual design awards to reflect this cultural shift.

It’s a view shared by Established & Sons. The last year has fundamentally transformed the way we live, with flexible home working becoming the new normal as lockdowns and travel restrictions became a key tool in the battle to control the spread of Covid-19. Most office workers want to retain an element of this flexibility in the long term, and it will be key in attracting and retaining staff.

Lucio is part of Established & Sons’ At Work collection, which was created in response to a blurring of boundaries between domestic and working lives, enabled by technology that made it possible for many people to work almost anywhere.

These pieces have come into their own over the last year, as homeowners and renters have recognised the need to reassess their home environments to support flexibility and home working.

The realities of lockdown, including homeschooling and video conferencing, have demonstrated that it is more important than ever to find ways to create private areas that enable focused working and time to think – even if that area is just one chair.

“This chair took four years to develop,” said Wrong. “We’re passionate about making products that fulfil a need and that offer a remarkable solution.”
